HiJinXX : Hey Guys, how you doing?
Rod: Just GREAT. We're sooooo excited about the new album ‘BLACK:ANTHEM'.
Release date is set for August 24 th 2005. The first single ‘When the body speaks' is
gonna be released here in Sweden during May.
HiJinXX: Please introduce yourself to the Rock n Roll People from Germany.
GEMINI FIVE are:
Slim Pete – Drums
Snoopy – Guitar & Vocals
Tin Star – Vocals & Guitar
Hot Rod – Bass & Vocals
All 4 were handpicked for this task. Meaning, we're not trying too hard to catch
the spirit of anything... We do as WE pleases and don't always care about the consecuences...
I guess to people whom have a nose for upcoming bands already know of GEMINI FIVE.
We have had some pretty amazing reviews on ‘Babylon Rockets' on several German webzines and magazines through 2003-2004.
For futher notice, please read next quiz!
HiJinXX: How did Gemini Five form ?
Rod:
GEMINI FIVE are four (4!) determined individuals whom by faith got to form the most spectacular and entertaining crew of gangsters who happens to create great music as well. We simply play and do what we want to hear and see for ourselfs. Take some of the toughest ingredients from the 80's and some of what's happening today, put your own stamp on top and you end up with GEMINI FIVE. We're not a nostalgic band, we're not bringing the 80's back! For Christ sake, it's 2005!
Tin's been asking me for years to join his team as a bass player.
When I came back home from Hollywood in 2001, a mutual friend of ours called me up to try out for his new band that were about to be formed in Stockholm. (I still live in Gothenburg. 500km from Stockholm) Tin knew I was back in Sweden, and he saw his chance to finally put together the ultimate Rock band.
At the time, Tin and Slim where the only members, but some prospects were asked to audition as well... However, Snoopy and I auditioned at the same time and no one else needed to be tried out!!!
Tuff luck, bastards ;-)
Gemini Five was born on July 21st 2001.
HiJinXX: What kinda band is Gemini Five? Please discribe your sound to the crowds.
Rod: Raw-Flamboyant-In-Your-Face-Come-Hard-Rock.
Hard rock for people with a taste for naked flesh... heehee.
With one foot in the 80's LA scene and the other in the present.
Call us whatever You feel like! Hardrock, sleaze, rocknroll, glam, industrial, goth, love metal... It doesnt matter to us as long as you're on our team.
People!!! Dont just sit there!!! Go figure out for yourself!!!
HiJinXX: Hey Rod, you sent me a lot of stuff from Gemini Five (the singles etc.) Everything were sounding fantastic. After that I bought the Babylon Rockets album and I was shocked about a so good first Album. What is you personal favourite song on it?
Rod: Thanks for the compliments. You're gonna be even more shocked by out new album ‘Black:Anthem'.
Favorite song on ‘Babylon Rockets' is "Hardcore".
Best song I ever heard. Stick to you like glue. Once you hear it, You just can't get enough...
The song has a great building up to the chorus, then it takes you down again just to
kick you alive and well... A TRUE amazing song.
HiJinXX: We talked about a new Gemini Five album, can you us tell something about the new Album “Black:Anthem”. When will it be released and what will be different to Babylon Rockets?
Rod: Release date August 24 th 2005.
You're not going to read or hear us saying that we have grown up
on this new second album 'Black Anthem', since we already are grown-ups.
However we had absolutely no intension of recording another Babylon Rockets part 2.
Infact, we have a smaller title to the album; 'Black:Anthem - Gemini Five part II' which
we chosed cus its another chapter in our book, so to speak.
The sound and approach its much havier, darker, louder, uglier and more beautiful.
All the ingreadients of how you all know Gemini Five x 20!!!
This time around we filled in the blanks of what we as a band felt was missing
regarding the production of the debut.
Its not like we turned the table round, you're still gonna recognize its us.
We wanted to close the leap between how people thought we were pussies
(sometimes cos of the cartoon cover for Babylon Rockets)
and then coming to our shows and got totaly blown away by how much
more aggresive and harder we are as an live act.
This is how we sat the standards for Gemini Five from the start some 3 ½ years ago.
We think this new album smells very FRESH!
HiJinXX: I saw the first Video of the new album and I all I can say it was great. Where did you filmed it and are there more videos plans for the upcoming album ?
Rod: The video is directed by Charlie Granberg whom is known to
Gemini Five fans throught his manga artwork on Babylon Rockets.
He's some pretty scary and dark ideas going on which just suits us fine
with the new album 'Black Anthem'. You're gonna see us like your never seen us before...
He had an idea of making a clash between ‘Taxidriver' the movie and the 'Smack my bitch up'-video by Prodigy. We're all showing our acting skills. Heehee.
Its was filmed in Stockholm, Sweden om February 5 th .
The police and ambulance was disturbing the filming twice from having people calling 911 since they been witnessing a brutal beating at a gas station.. Heehee, ist all true!!!
You'll understand when You will get to see the video.
Why we chosed ‘When the body speaks'?
Its simply one of the best tracks on the album.
My point of view concerning releasing singles is to be able to reach out to
as many people as possible. Getting air time on TV and radio. People are so
consumed these days so if the song dont stick to you in 30 seconds they wont remeber it...
Our choise of 'When the body speaks' is of a couple of factors involved:
1. It has a great chorus that sticks to you like glue.
2. It represents the approach and sound pretty well whats we're about in 2005.
Yes, we'll planning to release at least 2 more singles from ‘Black:Anthem'. The cd is filled with tunes to be put out as singles.
HiJinXX: Ok, whats the influence in your sounds?
Rod: The attidude from the LA 80's band and whats up today with
the industrial sound and movement.
HiJinXX: Whos your favourite (new) bands?
Rod: Marilyn Manson and Rammstein. To me, these two bands where the only
ones making something interesting during the whole era of the 90's.
We are all very different in our taste of bands and music. Its streches from
Led Zeppelin to Korn as well at totaly different genres like singer/songwriters and popartists.
I just love that little talanted at beautiful brat Avril Lavigne.
HiJinXX: Next time you will join the Rock im Wald Festival over here in Germany, is that the first time you play over here??
Rod: Oh NO! We supported Hardcore Superstar on their European tour last year.
Germany included.
HiJinXX: Please tell me a funny story from the band diary.
Rod : There were alot of practical jokes going on between the two camps of HCSS and G5,
when we toured Europe supporting them, but most of them are not printable for a family oriented mag like this... ho ho ha ha....
I can tell you one story though!
On the very last show in Haarlem,
Holland, the guys in HCSS and the crew put on som black grease on to my microphone's black foam cover.
Now, the grease from the microphone smeared out on my upper lip from singing in the microphone and made this Hitler-looking moustache on me...
So there I stood with my bangs combed to one side and poiting my right arm
straight out during the song "24/7" (me and Tin always does what during the chorus)
and looking like a mad nazi-wannabe, and I had absolutely no idea what everybody was staring at. Not to tell how all the guys were laughing their lungs out... FUNNY like hell!
HiJinXX: Ok you choose: King of Queens or Al Bundy ?
Rod: Have no clue what or who ‘King of Queens' is... should I?
But I was a huge fan of ‘Married with children' some years ago.
Al Bundy that is!
HiJinXX: Ok you choose: Mick Jagger or David Bowie ?
Mmm, tough one! Im brought on on both the Rolling Stones and David Bowie.
But I was never a fan of Mick. Keith and Ron is way cooler.
My answer is Mr Stardust.
HiJinXX: Ok you choose: Mr. Jack or Beer ?
Rod: Beer.
But I fancy Whiskey and Coke, not just particuarly Jack D.
–Clichés makes me go “BOOOOOOOORINNNGGGG”!!!
HiJinXX: Ok you choose: Pamela Anderson or Carmen Electra ?
Rod: I dont find either Ms Anderson or Ms Navarro the least
attractive! Both are just sluts and media whores to me. I mean, they're not ugly
but I know that type too well. All shallow and self occupied nerv-wreaks. If they had as
many cocks sticking out of their bodies as been going in, they both would look like an hedgehog. C'mon give me women like Naomi Watts, Tea Léoni, Vendela Kirsebom, Alexandra Paul, Cheryl Ladd, Patricia Arquette, Greta Garbo, Avril Lavigne, Helen Hunt, Salma Hayek, Andy McDowell, Nicky Hilton, Jewel, Jennifer Connelly, Elena Dementieva and Nadine Tschantz.
Now were talking!!! :-p
HiJinXX: What do you think about the Mainstream right now. 3 Years ago over here everybody were screaming for the Punks ala Ramones, Sex Pistols and the Clash and nowadays is “everybody ready “ for screaming for all the 80s G-Metal Heros ala Guns and Roses, Mötley Crüe and Twisted Sister. Whats coming up next? A big revival of Grunge ?? I think so.
Rod: I don't really care whats hot or not! Its all about sticking to your guns.
I think the post-grunge era has been going on for some years with bands like Creed and
Nickleback. Im not interested in the 80's metal nowdays either. All eras have had some
great bands and those bands stick with me, doesnt matter if its 30, 20 or 10 years ago they
were the shit! And about the Mainstream; its like its always been; loads of crap and
only the really great bands and songs stands the test of time. I dont think its a big
difference now from the 60's. People were writing songs and putting together
boybands and girlbands back then too. It was the whole basic idea of Motown Records.
Me for instace, I can enjoy a good pop-song or melody from the Backstreet Boys or Britney Spears. Its no big deal to me.
HiJinXX: Whats your plans for the future, where will the road leadb to with Gemini Five.
Rod: Everybody is hitting the roof with this album! Our labels both national and international.
We all wanna make sure the message gets through this time. Thats why we chosed to release the new album in August instead of this spring. Its important to make a propper promotonal work with this very special cd. As soon as its released its gonna take us to Russia, Japan, Brazil and of'course Europe. Hopefully USA and Canada as well. We've signed a deal with the American label Cleoptra records and they'll release ‘Babylon Rockets' sometime soon over there. I guess they're a little thick... must be with electing a leader like that...
HiJinXX: Do you Guys have any questions???
Rod: This is where I'll like to promote our shit! heehee.

Rod: There are no normal days being a member of GEMINI FIVE.
We all live in this bubble 24/7. We live, eat and shit GEMINI FIVE.
We're living our dreams right now.
